This is a story from over two years ago, but we thought we'd share our project management tool with you. (Especially since we've redesigned our website!)
Introducing Liberogic Ojii👴
We leverage APIs from communication tools we use and develop and operate it in-house.
* Whether the name came from the straightforward idea of "Ojii" because of "Liberogic" is something I don't quite remember.
First, when it comes to attendance and time tracking, there are plenty of well-made applications out there. It's a red ocean. Among them, the comprehensive HR management application SmartHR is genuinely excellent.
We have no affiliation with them whatsoever, nor is it simply because a client contact we once worked with moved there.
SmartHR is truly amazing—for companies with 30 or fewer employees, you can use almost all features essentially for free, and it has every feature you could want. They're so generous with startups and small operations like us that we can't help but recommend it enthusiastically!

But here's the thing... a lazy small operation like ours has a habit of wanting to consolidate only essential functions into the chat tool we already use.
So I asked our CTO to whip up a simple, lightweight tool...
"That's kinda boring,"
was the swift response.
We'd half-given up on the matter, but a few weeks later,
somehow we ended up with a fun work management tool that met all the requirements and then some, with extra creative flourishes ✌️
Liberogic's Liberogic Ojii👴 super concierge is incredibly capable.
We use Slack (lately Teams is being pushed more 😢 Go for it, Salesforce!) as our communication tool. When we arrive at the office, we first type the command "start" in the Liberozee channel.
Then Google Calendar events are displayed like this, and work begins.
To confirm necessary tasks, try typing something like "task task break".
Then, at the start of work, it appears like this on a dedicated screen. You can even express your mindset—whether you're busy or have time to help others!
When moving on to the next task, typing a command like "task Liberogic site follow" changes the assigned work. It's real-time chat-based attendance management!
Behind the scenes, Google's Firebase properly records everything, so work status for each person is plotted in a spreadsheet like this. Documents submitted to the labor standards inspection authority are all set!
And at the end of the day, typing "end" brings up the daily report screen like this! Now let's write the report!
We have ultra-flexible work hours (everyone, please read the employment rules... we're not even a black company, so we can't file those 36-hour exception forms...), so to accommodate work at any hour, we start closing out all operations at 5 a.m.
Enter generative AI (OpenAI API).
Our concierge—Riberoji—encourages the team based on the daily reports everyone writes in Notion.
After running the app for a while, it seems everyone got tired of just the old man.
Riberoji's granddaughter, Riberojou, makes an appearance every Friday.
She started encouraging us in gyaru-speak, so weekends have become something to look forward to!
Before long, Riberojou's boyfriend showed up too. He cheers us on in a "Check it, yo!" kind of tone, but honestly it's pretty hard to understand lol
Though it may seem like we're just fooling around, we've actually structured it so everyone can see project timelines and staff workloads at a glance—pretty convenient! (This is new! Viva Notion's chart feature!)
As we take on more work on a quasi-consignment basis, comparing estimated timelines to actual timelines is a breeze.
How was that? We really are living in a great time!
Technology's progress accelerates the fun. It's sad to see legacy programming work fade, but it's much more enjoyable to watch new technologies and services flourish.
Moore's Law? Singularity? Paradigm shift? We won't get into all that—we just keep up with change and pursue convenience.
Today I talked about our experience within the tools we use, but
- we use Teams as our chat tool—how about you?
- Can we run it through Google Workspace?
- Is it possible to implement it with Chatwork?
Honestly, we can do just about anything!
Thanks to the growth of service companies, we're fortunate to be in an era where frontend implementation is the mainstream.
